It’s so exciting to be releasing a new book in an entirely new universe! Aside from the co-written Hart & Sol, I haven’t done this since 2014’s Zombie RiZing. So, here we are. New story, new world, new characters and totally new end-of-the world premise!
I’m really proud of this story. I have been researching it for many months. Not only did I want it to be as relevant as possible in the ever changing would of AI, but I wanted it to be a mix of epic action and humour that keeps on punching around characters your like… or like to hate. And I think I’m onto a winner.
So what are Zambies? Well, I’m sure more than a few of you noticed the letters AI standing out in the title and that should give you a big clue. But this apocalypse has layers and zambies are only the pawns. Think robots, drones, superintelligence and all the other technologies that are on the brink of changing the very fabric of the world we though we knew. Honestly, it’s crazy how much things are about to change and it feels like no one is really talking about it at all.
It was part of my reasoning for making this a horror comedy. I felt the subject matter might be too close to home for some people to be prepared to digest yet, but, the light storytelling may encourage a wider readership.
Same with the main cast of characters. Thoroughly underprepared strangers who span the generations. It’s no secret that there is more generational angst than ever before, and this story premise gave me a great space to explore some of that as well.
The secret sauce to the story – music! We may look back on the last 60 years as an incredible time of creativity in that space. And while I’ve no doubt creative expression is likely to explode in the coming years, there will be something about the pre-AI days that will add to the longevity on this array of work.
SO, horror/comedy, zambies, AI, robots, drones, kickass music references and a dysfunctional and multigenerational cast – why aren’t you reading already? Oh, that’s right, it’s not quite out yet.
