Giving my middle grade fantasy horror comedy series a well-deserved makeover!
It’s rare you get a chance to revisit a series and and tweak those little things that had been nagging away at you for some time. The tenth anniversary of the Zombie RiZing series gave me that chance. The stories had had a couple of different evolutions over the years.
Initially, I had released the first few stories in a shorter format of six making a season, as was the trend in 2014/2015. These stories were already designed to work together as element s of larger stories and, when the episodic novella phase faded away, I was more than happy to construct the tales into a more traditional format. Those six stories going on to become the first two novels – The Beginning and Dreeks’ Horde. Just to confuse things more, I have now change the title of those two books to Deceased High and CataclysMall.
2019’s Dragon’s Wrath and 2022’s Death’s Door have retained their titles.
Aside from the renaming and reformatting, the tenth anniversary editions have new covers, an entirely new layout, new maps and new passages of story that add a few layers and easter eggs to the already kickass story! They look great!!
I’m hoping to have the fifth book – Zombie RiZing: Dark Abyss ready for release at the end of the year (the start of 2025 at the latest). That will leave the finale – Zombie RiZing: Castle Death – the wrap the series up in, say 2027)
I’d better get writing!
